Hanapa'a! One throw, and the net comes back full. Not luck. That's generations of knowledge, passed down throw by throw.

This design honors that knowledge. The sun watches over him — and the Honu reminds him that his catch will feed more than himself. It feeds not only his ohana, but the ohana of everyone he shares with.

This is Hanapāʻa Waiwai: to hold fast to abundance, and carry the wealth of that knowledge forward.
